A personal introduction to something new:
Hey! Bas here. You're probably thinking "What's this?" and "What am I going to read here?" Let me first introduce what this new concept is about. This first one's a bit longer, but trust me, it's worth the read. So, let's go!
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how I can spread my vision on the garments and collections. So, I felt it was time to open up a little more, to give you a clearer picture of what’s been on my mind while working on the brand. So I want to show you exactly why our garments deserve a spot in your wardrobe, what’s the idea or story behind some designs and give some personal styling inspiration on how to wear them.
If you’re into this kind of inspiration and insights I will give here, I’d love to do it more often. This is my way of pulling back the curtain a bit, sharing what’s been going on in my head, our office, in the brand in general and hopefully sparking some ideas for your own style. To kick things off, let’s dive into something new we’ve been working on for the past 2 years: tailorwear.
Why we added tailorwear
Tailorwear is making a comeback, but is that the reason why we added it? No. Let me ask you something first.. When was the last time you put on something that made you feel really put together? I didn’t have an answer to that a while back. In our product range I felt there was missing something more mature and versatile. Something I could wear to the office, on a night out, a fancy dinner, or even daily as a jacket. The only answer we had? Tailorwear. This perfectly matches our idea of working to a range that fits a more refined and mature wardrobe.
It was a long process. The idea was there already, but we had to make the best tailorwear we could imagine. Imagine a lot of trial and error at many different factories. None of the samples were good. Trust me if I say this product group is not easy to make. So we had to source new factories with a specific specialism in creating tailorwear. Naomi joined our design team a year ago and she took the lead in working out the ideas which were there. And now here it is. Something truly luxury for an affordable price. With unique Urban Elegance silhouettes. Better than we can imagine.
And the timing couldn’t be better. What is truly nice right now is that tailoring is making a serious comeback, and honestly, I think it's about time. After years of ultra-casual styles dominating, like hoodies and joggers, we’re seeing a return to more thoughtful, intentional dressing. Men are looking for quality, timeless pieces.
Tailoring is part of that movement. It’s a shift away from fast fashion, away from throwaway trends, and toward something that lasts—something crafted with care. And honestly, that’s what excites me about this collection. It’s not just about looking good (though, trust me, you will, haha)—it’s about showing you value the details, that you’re dressing with purpose. Tailoring says, “I’ve arrived, and I know exactly where I’m going.” And let’s be real—that’s the kind of energy we all want to bring right now, isn’t it?
Why tailorwear is a wardrobe must-have
Look, I get it. You might be thinking, “Do I really need a tailored piece in my wardrobe?” And I understand it. Maybe it’s a bit out of your comfort zone yet. My answer—absolutely. In fact, you need more than one. Tailorwear is like the foundation of your wardrobe. It's that go-to suit or blazer that you can throw on, no matter the occasion, and know you’re going to look sharp.
The beauty of a well-tailored piece is that it doesn’t just look good; it makes you feel good. And right now, as the market shifts toward more refined, thoughtful dressing, tailorwear is no longer optional—it’s a must-have. Especially when you can wear it with an urban twist. Trust me, once you slip into a great suit, or even just a great blazer, you’ll wonder why you didn't get one before.
How do I personally style our tailorwear? Proportions (!)
Alright, here’s where things get fun. I want to share personal inspiration on how to style our tailorwear because, for me, versatility is what makes these pieces really special. When creating silhouettes, I always have a vision for how the suit should look on my own body—but the best part is how you can take that and make it your own.
So, how do I wear it? Honestly, I mix things up. I rarely wear the full suit as a set—I love pairing the blazer with jeans. But, here’s the key: it’s all about proportions.. I know what you’re thinking, “What do you mean by proportions?” Trust me, it’s more important than you think. If the proportions aren’t right, I won’t wear the outfit.
Let me explain—if I’m going with an oversized black blazer, I’m definitely pairing it with something equally oversized or even more oversized bottoms. I won’t compromise on that. If there’s no wider bottom, I won’t wear the jacket. Why? Because a big jacket with slimmer pants throws off the whole look. You end up with this odd shape—tiny legs, big upper body—and it’s not flattering. So, keep those proportions in check. Your legs are KEY to balancing out your whole outfit. And hey, give your legs some love—they do all the heavy lifting haha.
Now, you might be thinking, “Can I wear the less oversized gray blazer with an oversized bottom?” The answer is absolutely. It’s all about keeping the proportions right, and in this case, it’s your legs that do the work. The legs are always the focal point when it comes to balancing out your outfit.
So, how would I style the gray blazer by myself? Honestly, there are a few ways to go. You can pair it with baggy jeans or pants similar to the black blazer, because the volume on the bottom creates the right proportions. But it also works with slimmer jeans or pants, since the blazer itself isn’t super oversized. So you’ve got options here, and it’s all about how you want to play with the silhouette.
And shoes? Honestly, picking the right shoes can make or break the look. If I’m going oversized on top and bottom, I’ll go for something bigger and more robust on the feet, like puff-tongue sneakers (love ERL) or something with a platform sole. You need that balance; otherwise, if everything’s oversized and your shoes are too small, it just looks… weird. Your shoes get lost in the look, and the whole silhouette is thrown off. Personally I wear these with sneakers to get the Urban Elegance look. But it's also nice with some hiker boots this winter.
So, yeah—shoes are probably the most important finishing touch. You could have the perfect suit or blazer, but if your shoes aren’t right or don't match the aesthetic of the outfit, the whole outfit can fall flat. Just think of your shoes as the exclamation point that pulls the whole thing together.
